LABBB Wellington Elementary Students at Play

Last Friday afternoon I stopped by the LABBB Wellington Elementary Program in Belmont and our students were outside on the new playground. This is a state of the art playground and I just couldn’t resist trying it out. Here I am with a student from our program who didn’t think that I would actually climb up there with him.
Our program at LABBB Wellington is highly structured throughout the day, with specialized services, academics and other activities that keep all the students engaged in the classroom and it was great to see the students at play, interacting, socializing, and just being kids without all the structure. The LABBB staff at Wellington do not forget that our students need to be outside and exercising just like every other elementary student. The playground is a natural environment for our students and they are taking full advantage of this playground that has all the bells and whistles you can imagine. The staff also aware that there needs to be a balance of instruction and natural play and I was able to see each student enjoying every minute of the time they were on the playground.
Now that we are finally in the new Wellington Elementary school the students also have a play area that is safe and allows them to explore, be creative, and enjoy physical exercise right outside our classroom door. As educators we need to be mindful of letting our kids be kids. They are just having fun and the staff are promoting this.
Thank you to the LABBB Wellington Staff for sending me the pictures, I promised I would put it on my blog!
